Weekly Seafood Update: Norwegian Farmed Salmon Exports, week 30 2012

Statistics Norway reported an export of 15,151 metric tonnes of fresh/chilled and frozen farmed salmon from Norwegian salmon farmers in week 30, 2012. On a rolling average four week basis volume in tonnes exported were up 20.7% (2,747 tonnes) on the same period last year.

The weighted average price per kilo for the week was NOK 26.68 and was down 14.6% YoY on a rolling average four week basis.

The value of exports for the week was NOK 404.249 million, an increase of 3.0% (NOK 12.591 million) on last year on a rolling average four week basis.

The trend reported in previous weeks continues along the same lines with a substantial increase, although at a slower pace, in volume on last year and a decline in price. As a result, the value of exports also continues to increase on last year, but less significantly than in previous weeks. The percentage increase in tonnes exported as of week 30 (rolling four week basis) was again the lowest since week 50 in 2011. Prices are still declining compared to same period last year and for the first time in 12 weeks it declined more rapidly than the prior week . The value of exports increased YoY for the 9th week in a row (on a rolling four week basis).
