EC: €8.1 billion investment... Q&A

Further to the previous post, here are some Q&As provided by the EC for the "...biggest ever set of calls for proposals for research..."

Not sure how the EC will go about ensuring that each member country receives their fair share of the return on this investment, apparently, "EU research funding generates enormous added value for Europe. €1 of EU Framework Programme funding leads to an increase in industry added value of between €7 and €14". The EC says nothing about the potenetial (and sustainable) profits of this investment however (industry value added is not profits). If profits are likely to be high as well, I wonder why industries need funds from the EU (and maybe they don't?).
