Weekly Seafood Update: Norwegian Farmed Salmon Exports, week 28 2012

Statistics Norway reported an export of 16,642 metric tonnes of fresh/chilled and frozen farmed salmon from Norwegian salmon farmers in week 28, 2012. On a rolling average four week basis volume in tonnes exported were up 23.5% (3,262 tonnes) on the same period last year.

The weighted average price per kilo for the week was NOK 26.95 and was down 13.3% YoY on a rolling average four week basis.

The value of exports for the week was NOK 448.514 million, an increase of 7.1% (NOK 31.079 million) on last year on a rolling average four week basis.

The trend reported in previous weeks continues with a substantial increase in volume on last year and a decline in price and the value of exports continues to increase significantly on last year as the increase in volume remains higher than the drop in price. The percentage increase in tonnes exported as of week 28 (rolling four week basis) was however the lowest since week 50 in 2011. Prices are still declining compared to same period last year, but the decline is yet again substantially smaller than it was some weeks back. The value of exports increased YoY for the 7th week in a row (on a rolling four week basis).
