Weekly Seafood Update: Norwegian Farmed Salmon Exports, week 33 2012

Statistics Norway reported an export of 15,772 metric tonnes of fresh/chilled and frozen farmed salmon from Norwegian salmon farmers in week 33, 2012. On a rolling average four week basis volume in tonnes exported were up 26.8% (3,327 tonnes) on the same period last year.

The weighted average price per kilo for the week was NOK 27.45 and was down 8.2% YoY on a rolling average four week basis.

The value of exports for the week was NOK 432.896 million, an increase of 16.6% (NOK 61.315 million) on last year on a rolling average four week basis.

The trend reported in previous weeks continues along the same lines with a substantial increase in volume on last year and a decline in price. The total value of exports also continues to increase on last year (as the increase in volume more than offsets the decline in price) and the percentage increase for the week was the highest reported for 69 weeks. The percentage increase in tonnes exported as of week 33 (rolling four week basis) was the highest reported for the last five weeks. Prices are still declining compared to same period last year, but the decline is substantially smaller than it was some weeks back (e.g. a decline of 27.6% in week 20, 2012) and YoY it was the lowest decline in price for 61 weeks. The value of exports increased YoY for the 12th week in a row (on a rolling four week basis).
