Weekly Seafood Update: Norwegian Farmed Salmon Exports, week 31 2012

Statistics Norway reported an export of 16,142 metric tonnes of fresh/chilled and frozen farmed salmon from Norwegian salmon farmers in week 31, 2012. On a rolling average four week basis volume in tonnes exported were up 22.1% (2,853 tonnes) on the same period last year.

The weighted average price per kilo for the week was NOK 27.30 and was down 13.6% YoY on a rolling average four week basis.

The value of exports for the week was NOK 440.657 million, an increase of 5.3% (NOK 21.231 million) on last year on a rolling average four week basis.

The trend reported in previous weeks continues along the same lines with a substantial increase in volume on last year and a decline in price. The total value of exports also continues to increase on last year (as the increase in volume more than offsets the decline in price) and at a more rapid pace this week compared to the previous two weeks. The percentage increase in tonnes exported as of week 31 (rolling four week basis) was the highest for three weeks. Prices are still declining compared to same period last year, but the decline is substantially smaller than it was some weeks back (e.g. a decline of 27.6% in week 20, 2012). The value of exports increased YoY for the 10th week in a row (on a rolling four week basis).
